Nibbles and Chance Revel

Comox, BC
January 28, 2006

Looking for a bit of conviviality, some happy company, a little bit of pleasure in the midst of winter?
Join us for a relaxing evening at Cragmere's Nibbles and Chance Revel!

This is a dessert potluck, with plenty of time to nibble, and game the night away. There will be a couple of bouts of dance, a unique game of kubb, and contests!

Contests
Desserts!
Judging will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. Entries will be decimated by the populace at 8:01 p.m. (Potential judges will have to bribe the contest organizer.)
To all Entrants of the Contest of Edibles:
Please include the recipe, or a list of ingredients, a serving dish, and (if necessary) a serving utensil. The entries do not necessarily have to be desserts, but they should be bite-sized to allow for general mingling and game-playing. Each entry may only be entered into one category. Any other requirements will be found in the category descriptions below.

Documentable Delectables:
This category is open to the entrants' curiosity and hunger for knowledge - of the kitchen, that is! Here is a chance to celebrate the tasty tid-bits of time. This is a display of food from history. There is one requirement for this category - please document!

Travelling Temptations:
Explore the places you've always wanted to go! There are many amazing dishes from all over the world, so we thought it might be warming to bring them all together in this rainy, wintry season. Please include a label indicating where your dish is from. Documentation is optional, as this category is a chance to explore the foods of various cultures, or enhance your own knowledge about your persona.

Chocolate:
This category is pretty self-explanatory. If it is made of chocolate, has chocolate on it, chocolate mixed in...or if there is even a hint of a possibility of chocolate to be tasted - it is good. It should be worshipped on pedestals of marble. All hail the greatness of chocolate! Are we getting carried away?

The Un-Category:
If you have a favourite recipe, but are unsure of its origins (and goodness knows about documentation), this is the category for you! This also allows for beginners to try their talents out on a roomful of willing tastebuds.

Games Tourney
Proposed format - your name goes into a hat; names are drawn at random to create 4 or 5 teams of up to 6 players each. Each team will be required to play a set number of games in each game category (possibly elimination or round robin); the game categories are:
tablero de jesus
9-man morris
shut the box
wari
backgammon
kubb
Significant bonus points will be awarded to teams exhibiting exceptional courtesy. Charles welcomes input on all aspects of the Games Tourney: 703-0494, charlesleverdier@island.net.

And more...!
Open Games throughout the evening will include: the above plus alquerque, menenick madness, tablero (players of de gucci are reminded to pay attention to health and safety), and whatever else you bring.

Bards are encouraged to entertain, but don't expect any silence ("To the Queen!"); listeners who want to -hear- the bard will have to get themselves closer to the entertainment!

All are welcome to bring banners and wall-hangings to create ambiance!

Site fee: $5 for ages 19 and up, plus a dessert potluck contribution.
:$2 for ages 11 to 18, inclusive

With your dish, please include a list of ingredients, an appropriate serving dish and a serving utensil. Be sure your name or other identifying mark is on the dish and utensil! "Dessert" may be loosely interpreted to include vegetables (with dip?), but contributions are recommended to be finger food or something easy to eat while playing games. Note that kitchen facilities are not available for other than clean-up.

The site is the Lion's Den in Comox (below the library).

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; note that the doors will be locked until 6:30, so go have supper first!

Directions:
Make your best way to Comox, following any highway/street signs.

When you get to downtown Comox, you will be on Comox Avenue. Continue until you pass the 4-way-stop at Church St., and have the Comox Mall on your left.

Across from the Comox Mall, on your right, is Nordin Street. Turn right, down Nordin (note the building on your left) and park there.

The building on the corner of Nordin St and Comox Ave, that you took note of, is the home of the Comox Library (Vancouver Island Regional Library), which has its entrance on the Comox Avenue side; the Lions' Den is off the parking lot, lower level, at the back of the building.

There will be signs!
