Games & Dance Potluck Revel
Grantham Hall, Merville, BC
October 14, 2006

Join us in a casual evening of food, games, dance and visiting. All are encouraged to bring their games, and learn new ones, too.

Lost your marbles? Come find them at the marbles tourney. (See Milady Nichola)

We'll even clear the dance floor for some kubb time (indoor kubb, anyone?).

Dancing will cover a sufficient variety that both new and experienced dancers will have a chance at the floor. More details yet to come.

I'm looking for volunteers (you knew this was coming, yes?):
- one or two put up and take down signs (probably only need a couple or three)
- run gate (all paper needs provided; need staff)
- gate assistant
- manage the kitchen (refrigerate foods that need it; make coffee; assist people in setting out their potluck dishes; cleaning up after; kitchen box provided)
- help to ensure hall is clear for us, and set up tables and chairs (bring banners!)
- help to clear the hall away again
- and... other suggestions welcome to help make this a fun evening for everyone!

Volunteers:
Dori - manage the kitchen and coffee (donated)
Andronikos, April, Cody, Tristan - set-up of hall (More hands are welcome! Those are 8' tables...)
Kathy - gate (could always do with another, to fill in until Kathy arrives)
Aleyn - pipe music for dancing (A drummer with a metronome beat would be welcome! Even a relatively even non-metronome beat. Drum supplied!); Halima will lead dances where needed
Nichola - marbles 'boards'
Phyllis and Bill (names to come) - signs!

Site fee: $7.00 per adult plus a potluck dish; $3.00 per minor age 12-18; under 12 free.
(For guidance on potluck revels, see the links on the Reference Page.)

Directions

Grantham Hall is on the "old Island Highway", now the scenic coast drive 19A, across from Tsolum School (near the Smith Rd intersection), north of Courtenay (10 mins from the bottom of Mission Hill), and south of Campbell River (30 mins from downtown). For photos, check out the Grantham Hall page.

From the south, make your best way into Courtenay, and either of the bridges (17th St. or 5th St.) coming off Cliffe Avenue to get you going north. Follow signs through town towards Campbell River. (If you pass Art Knapp's Nursery at the top of a hill, keep going; you're doing fine.) You'll be driving about 10-ish minutes from there, so look for signs before then. Don't pass the Gunter Bros. sign on the left (Smith Road), or you'll have to back up. The hall is on your right (Grantham 'Odd Fellows' Hall).

From the north, either take the old "Coastal" highway, or the Hamm Road link from the new highway to the old. Go past Merville Store (good gas prices there!), and when you see the Gunter Bros sign or Tsolum School or Smith Road on the right, you'll be turning left into the driveway for Grantham Hall. The hall sign is not so visible from that end.

NOTE: there are no stores within easy distance!

There will be signs!

Doors open: 4 p.m. to midnight (or until we fall down from exhaustion, whichever comes first)

Site rules:

Period containers for beverages, please; this is a "damp" site, but let's make it look good!
Food is to be ready for serving; that is, already portioned (if in doubt, smaller pieces rather than larger), and with suitable serving utensil. Ensure you retrieve your utensils, or mark them so that they have a hope in finding their way home.
If you need to use the stove, book time with Halima (address above), as it is a small residential type.
