Shire of Cragmere Council Minutes
Aug 10, 2005

Present: Paul, Jamie, Rhys, Nik, Linda, Cheridy, Miranda

Came to order 8 p.m.

1. Newsletter is, after this (July) issue is printed, put on hold for approx 6 months; consider becoming quarterly/seasonal. Plan for Fall issue before end of year. Enthusiastic reports on Mermaids, Heraldic Symp., and Ravens Key War are sought for this issue.

2. Officer positions open: chatelaine, chirurgeon, and chronicler/editor. Exchequer requires a deputy now, to adequately train for taking on the office in February; must have some bookkeeping skill, willingness to fill in forms in a timely manner, and an SCA membership (that must be kept up for the duration of the term of 2 years). (Must be able to use a calculator; Rhys' suggestion of an abacus is inadequate.)

3. Discussion re: tithe (10% of event profits) as suggested by Kingdom Law. Could put towards Principality travel fund. Profits inconsequential. Result: let's do one of Paul's fundraisers! (Fund-raise, rather than tithe.) Raffle, auction, maybe spring 2006; Paul is currently refusing to steward it. Currently.

4. Linda asked that irregular dance practices be approved. (This just makes it SCA-recognized.) Jamie requires phone notification of when it is happening, and signing of waivers. All agreed. Those interested to give Linda name, phone number, and days available.

5. Arts council to be organized for fall by Cheridy; she plans to talk to everyone individually over the next couple of months.

6. Advertising: "The Record" is doing its 'Fall Registration' insert; we will pass, due to apparent lack of community response to the last one.

Response seems to come through the website.

Consider Nautical Days next year, or in June; possibly do a Medieval Craft Faire (need Colette on this one?) in Lewis Park. Recruit, fund-raise. Look at involving Ravensley and Hartwood.

Note: Aug 20 Ravensley demo at Qualicum Heritage Inn. Linda doing dance and merchanting. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Note: Aug 25 Armed Forces Kids' Daycamp. Linda doing dance. Aug 26 fighting demo cancelled due to lack of sufficient fighters (work schedules!).

Consider: ads/articles in "In Focus", "The Voice", "The Word".
Nik to work on poster sample for next council; Linda to update brochure; Paul wants good fighter pix for same.

7. Re-visit Operational Guidelines in fall.

8. Wayne is closing his leather shop of 5th; get there before the end of the week. Linda's Leather will show how to carve leather for free.

9. Revel - Autumn Supper, Oct 8/05: We don't get Lions' Den hall until 4 p.m., therefore doors open at 5 p.m. Annie asked that council accept the event budget ($125 for hall and kitchen, $30 food [stew and desserts], $10 tokens); approved budget. Site fee of $6 per head 13 years old and over plus a potluck dish; accepted.

10. Announcement: Campbell River Rapier practice Thurs nights - starts Aug 11, at 6 p.m. at the Campbell River Sportsplex, run by Tavis. Paul would like to see the Comox Valley people travel up there once a month for a Thursday practice, and the CR people travel down once a month for a practice (giving twice a month when all fighters are practicing together).

11. Ithra postponed until spring, possibly April. More discussion on classroom sites, or outdoors. Still want class suggestions. Does Tina have an "in"? Must ask. Can we do an Ithra in CR? Must ask Brenethwyn.

12. Armed Forces Daycamp: cancelled fighting day due to 2 key fighters not being available. Linda will still do dance on the Thursday (Aug 25).

13. A&S: Cheridy thanks Colette (not at meeting) for manual; gave outline of proceedings (getting membership, gathering shire A&S supplies, will help organize and catalog library). Suggested having team project nights with an eye to creating prizes. Congratulated Nik on his entry in the Ravens Key War (castle in any medium); prize in advanced cat.
(See last month for August A&S Wednesdays.)

14. We were regaled with stories of RKWar from both Paul and Jamie.

Adjourned 9 p.m.
Cheridy Whipp and Linda J. Doerksen
