Shire of Cragmere Council Minutes
September 6, 2006
Present: Mat, Rhys, Paul, Cheridy, Nik, Kirk, Jamie, Phyllis, Dana, Dennis, Shannon, Stuart, Colette, Bill, Linda
Came to order at 7:30 p.m.
1. Discussion on Dec 2/06 event: Colette wants a larger hall, but under $200; Linda will see about getting square footages for Grantham, Lions Den; Linda will also get an announcement into the Hartwood Birthday Bash court; will be happy to carry tickets, if they are ready by Saturday morning, or will print off from the website.
2. Arts & Sciences:
- The gouache is found, and the Silver Swan scrolls; more to come.
- Trenchers - Cheridy asked Rhys and Shannon to create some designs for same; much discussion ensued.
- Dance - Linda and Stuart are collaborating with dance and pipe music; looking for free indoor space to dance, and Colette suggests train station; C will find where the sign-up is and tell Linda; Sept 14th (Thursday), dance at Nik and Linda's outside; Linda will reserve train station hall for one night a month, and invite Hartwood and Ravensley to join us.
- on group projects - will designate a leader and assign jobs for better clarity next time!
- Newcomers are invited to suggest what they'd like to do for A&S (Linda unhelpfully piped up with "dress them", probably referring to garb).
- All are invited to bring those bits of documentation or other inspiration that caused them to do the projects they chose; stop hiding all that at home.
- Next A&S meetings to be at the Tingles', during which armouring will happen at Paul's; both to begin at 7:30 p.m.
- Western Martial Arts, Stuart - Discussion on all fighters meeting in the same practice location and time; also, those interested in WMA, including quarterstaff and German longsword must get in touch with Stuart.
- Cookery Guild, Stuart - Possibly monthly, with meetings in "garb", working up to feasts; talk to him about it.
- Leather box project to come, possibly November; costs currently estimated at $20 for a mug-size.
3. Discussion on communication: Need some; officers to call the seneschal when officer matters arise; seneschal will also call the officers; all consider it polite to inform officer or leader of an activity when they will be unable to attend (or -will- attend).
4. Next council (Oct 4th) to be in Bowser; info to come.
5. Brief self-introductions went around the room.
6. Discussion on event: Armada went well; B&B Seagirt said, "Do this again!"; we made money; look at reserving the site now for next year, possibly a bit earlier, and get the paperwork in to the Principality Calendar; begin planning in October (post siege-craft info on the website); keep it simple, even the swimming was special; continue with the "hidden competition"... others invited to give him ideas for next year; boat races good; knots class good; not sure about sonnets, but might be OK.
7. Discussion on potential event: No, it turned into another "Linda suggested an event, so let's make her the steward!" Except they said "autocrat" because that's the way the lingo goes. I really do prefer "event steward". Oh, well. October 14th is the tentative date, with main activities being Games and Dance; potluck, with an under $10 site fee, maybe even $8; we'll see, once we have a site.
8. Armada photos: Linda to contact Alistair for his photos for the Cragmere website.
9. Banner challenge: reply to be sent to Linda for posting in the original's locations.
Adjourned 9:05 p.m.
Minutes by Linda J. Doerksen; but of course, if you have any comments or corrections, call me at 703-0494 and let me know what they are... or just call me to say you saw this! No one has, yet, so I'm tempted to keep going with this...
