Shire of Cragmere Council Minutes
November 1, 2006
Present: Kathy, Paul, Cheridy, Nik, Linda
Came to order at 7:40 p.m.
1. Discussion on Dec 2/06 event: Colette emailed her "want" list to the Cragmere elist (dated Wed, 01 Nov 2006 16:56:43; subject "Council business"). There were two responses, and another from the meeting itself. It was suggested that the good signs be used; Kathy noted that there are both longer and shorter bolts, and that the longer ones were guaranteed to work on any of the usual posts. Both Paul and Cheridy have previous commitments, and will not be at the event. It was suggested that the on-line request for volunteers continue, as well as at all A&S nights. Nothing further could be discussed without the event steward or deputies.
2. Discussion on future events: Linda noted that Stuart emailed a note indicating further information to come on a spring Mongolian event. Further discussion ensued:
- Can all upper island branches co-ordinate so that we rotate once-a-month "big" events? That giving each branch 4 well-sized events each over the year, and further encouragement for everyone to visit outside the shire.
- What about impromptu events? Mini events that require no rentals or particular planning? Suggested by Paul: movie night (out); pub night; park fighter practice and shire picnic w $1 donation; house parties/events. Suggested by Cheridy: summer days at the beach, or the park; other spontaneous gatherings. (Which led to...)
3. Discussion on contact list: We need a new one, with all the newcomers, and with the officers better marked. It is suggested that, despite the prevalence of email, copies be made for and given to all the shire officers. Colette was the latest person doing this work. Talk to her?
4. MoS: Evening practice is dropped for the season; winter practices will be during the afternoons until the evenings are light again. Kirk is organizing it, but nothing is yet formalized. Nothing is known about Campbell River; no deputy has reported. (Which led to...)
5. Discussion on Cragmere: Frustration was expressed regarding the lack of communication between the northern/Campbell River end of Cragmere, and the southern/Comox Valley end.
Questions arose: Are CR people active? How active? Do they meet? Ever? Should CR create a household, complete with formal leader (and contact person)? Cheridy notes that CR people can contact her at any time if they want to arrange a special event in their area; she would like an A&S deputy (or other contact person) in the area so that her reports can be complete.
6. Arts & Sciences:

Adjourned 9:00 p.m.
Minutes by Linda J. Doerksen; but of course, if you have any comments or corrections, call me at 703-0494 and let me know what they are... or just call me to say you saw this! No one has, yet, so I'm tempted to keep going with this... Hm... So, you Campbell River people... Do you want us to visit you? I got a couple ideas. Firstly, you have to be up-front about telling everyone that, and that means talking to us southerners. We don't bite. Not usually. Give us a place. (Bribes help. Mine should be dark chocolate.) Secondly, if you visit -us- once a month, we'd be far more amenable to visiting -you- once a month. And not just events or other special occasions. D'you get my drift? It's kind of a tit-for-tat sort of thing. Like, be a friend to get a friend. Just something to think about... if you're interested...
