Shire of Cragmere Council Minutes
January 3, 2007
Present: Nik, Cheridy, Shannon, Stuart, Kathy, Paul, Jamie, Esteban, Colette, Linda
Came to order at 7:45 p.m.
1. Discussion: Armada date not solid yet; waiting on Koopmans and Scouts Canada.
2. Discussion: Stuart proposed a gathering for musicians and those interested, with all instruments (period or not). Suggested for next week along with clothing projects at McMullens'.
3. A&S Nights: adjusted
Jan 10 - Music, and Garb (sew and talk clothing) - at the McMullens in Courtenay
Jan 17 - Leather box workshop - at Tingles'
Jan 24 - More leather - at Tingles'
Jan 31 - Personal Projects - at Lynne & Alistair's
Feb 7 - Council - at Cheridy's at 8 p.m.; all are welcome
4. A&S Discussions:
- Stuart said that Anu would like us to choose 2 consecutive evenings for the Mongolian cooking workshop; none yet decided
- Cheridy asked for information from those willing to teach classes (best via email)
- Cheridy asked for expressions of interest in classes ("I want to learn..."); Colette enthusiastically listed many, most of which must wait until Paul's workshop is complete (copper enameling, lampworking, setting bezels, lost-wax casting, corded corset [Briga!])
- Kathy said that Linda's Leather classes on leather-tooling have resumed on Fridays nights at 7 p.m.
5. Black Knight Feast: Tickets are now available from Linda; it is suggested that recommendations be made now, as the royalty of Tir Righ will attend.
6. False Isle Ithra: Linda babbled about it, as she has the catalogues.
7. MoS: Paul said that practices are resuming Sunday January 14th at 3:30 p.m.; Tina is restarting the Campbell River practices, Sundays at 10 a.m.
- Paul will hold a Rapier Authorization Day by the end of the month on a Sunday. Fibreglas is still legal!
- Paul would like to see full-shire practices bi-weekly, alternating with Comox Valley going to Campbell River, and CR coming down.
- Swan's Guard discussion: Paul quickly reviewed requirements to be a member of the Swan's Guard - own their own gear, be authorized, live in Cragmere, be participating at least a year; he also noted that the Swan's Guard encompasses all aspects of combat (including archery) and that there is no age limit.
- Paul will focus on heavy-armoured combat.
- Kirk is now Master of Blades.
- Colette is to get boffer going, starting with getting gear.
8. Event discussion: for March 10/07, a Mongolian Empire event, probably at a Lewis Park hall, for maybe $12 a head for a sit-down served feast. Paul volunteered for cooking. Details to be finalized shortly.
9. Discussion on last December's event led to discussion on Upper Island events: at 4 events per shire per year gives 12 events per year, with little time for Principality and Kingdom events; consider fewer and larger shire events plus very small home events to leave room for Tir Righ and An Tir; too many events mean a disservice to all of them; Sealion moves every year, so why not, for instance, a Christmas event? Consider the Crafts guilds' revel as the first, to Hartwood or Ravensley? Jamie to begin discussion with other branches after this weekend's exam.
Adjourned 9:04 p.m.
Minutes by Linda J. Doerksen; if you have any comments or corrections, call me at 703-0494 and let me know what they are... or just call me to say you saw this! No one has, yet, so I'm tempted to keep going with this... How that tale of the three kings who decided to fight over a lake that their kingdoms all bordered...?
